Malaysia My Second Home Programme

MM2H is Malaysia's long-stay residence programme, restructured in 2024 into Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers based on the size of a fixed deposit held in a Malaysian bank. It grants multi-year multiple-entry residence with dependants, and the Platinum tier permits limited work and business activity. It is capital-intensive and considerably more demanding than DE Rantau, so it makes sense for people committing to Malaysia for a decade rather than a season. Sarawak runs its own separate and cheaper version.

Good to know

  • Sarawak-MM2H has materially lower financial requirements if you are happy to base yourself in Borneo
  • Part of the fixed deposit can usually be released after twelve months for property or medical costs
  • The programme was suspended and restructured once already; terms may change again
  • Minimum annual presence requirements make this unsuitable for people who travel constantly
