Temporary Resident Visa by Economic Solvency

This is Mexico's practical long-stay route for remote earners and financially independent applicants who will not take locally paid work. Thresholds are derived from Mexican economic units and converted by each consulate, so published USD figures differ slightly by mission and month. A current 2026 US-consulate benchmark is roughly USD 4,500 monthly after-tax income over six months or USD 76,000 average savings or investments over twelve months. The consular visa is only the entry document: after arrival it must be exchanged at INM within 30 days for the first one-year resident card.

The first resident card is normally one year. Renew in Mexico up to a four-year temporary-residence total, after which permanent residence may be available.
