If you land in Bangkok with no plan, you end up here, and it works. Two BTS interchanges, three malls, every cuisine, a hospital at each end and thousands of near-identical condo towers with a pool on the roof. The trade-off is that it feels engineered for foreigners rather than lived in, and the stretch around Nana and Soi Cowboy carries a nightlife reputation that some people would rather not live inside. For a first month in the city while you work out where you actually want to be, it is the correct choice.

Bangkok has separate scenes rather than one: agency and e-commerce operators cluster in Thonglor, the startup and VC crowd around Ploenchit and Samyan, and crypto everywhere. Weekly run clubs and Sunday football are the easiest ways in.
Turnover is high, which cuts both ways: it is easy to meet people and hard to keep them.

The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway cover the central corridor well and run until around midnight. Motorbike taxis at the mouth of every soi are the fastest way to cover the last kilometre. Pavements are narrow, obstructed and frequently non-existent.
