EU, EEA and Swiss Free Movement
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens live and work in Cyprus without a visa, registering after three months.
EU, EEA and Swiss Free Movement
Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland do not need a visa or the nomad route to live in Cyprus. Any stay of up to three months only needs a valid passport or national identity card. Staying longer is still free, but you register your residence locally and show that you work, study or have sufficient resources and health cover. Remote work for a foreign employer and local employment are both allowed. Cyprus is outside the Schengen area, so ID checks still happen at the border.

Enter with your ID
Cross the border with a valid passport or national identity card. No visa or arrival form is needed.
Register your residence
Apply for the EU registration certificate at the local immigration or municipal office in Cyprus.
Extending the stay
Extendable
No
No extension is needed: residence beyond three months is handled by registration rather than a visa.
Tax and health
Tax
Free movement does not change tax residency: 183 days, or 60 days under the non-dom test, makes you a Cyprus tax resident.
Insurance
Not required. Not needed for short stays. Long-stay registration requires health cover, such as a European Health Insurance Card, private insurance or local social security.
Healthcare
EU citizens can use a European Health Insurance Card for temporary stays.
