Vietnam E-Visa

Since August 2023 Vietnam's e-visa has been available to all nationalities for up to 90 days, with a multiple-entry option. It is applied for entirely online, usually approved within three to five working days, and costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple. This single change turned Vietnam from an administratively awkward country into one of the most accessible in Asia. It carries no work rights, though it is what almost every remote worker in the country uses.

Broadly open, but consulates assess each application case by case.

• Not a work permitInfoThe e-visa does not authorise work. Legal employment requires a work permit and a temporary residence card sponsored by a Vietnamese entity.

1. Apply on evisa.gov.vn

   ~1 day

   Complete the form and upload your photo and passport scan. Check every field: mistakes cannot be corrected and require a new application.

2. Wait for approval

   Approval usually arrives in three to five working days by email, with a PDF to print.

3. Enter Vietnam

   Present the printed e-visa at your declared entry checkpoint.

In-country extension exists in principle but is inconsistently granted and usually handled by agents at significant cost. The standard approach is a new e-visa plus a short exit.

• Print the e-visa. Some checkpoints still want paper.
• Apply for the multiple-entry version if you plan any regional trips; the USD 25 difference is trivial next to a new application
• Your name must exactly match your passport, including middle names
• Unofficial visa sites are the single most common way visitors overpay
• Extensions are unreliable, so build the exit into your plan from the start
