Digital Nomad Visitor Visa

Taiwan's dedicated route is open to nationals of visa-exempt countries who work digitally for businesses or clients outside Taiwan. Applicants qualify through a previous nomad visa or an age-based income test, must show an average USD 10,000 bank balance across six months and need international hospitalisation insurance. The visa begins with a six-month permitted stay. Foreign-professional reforms effective in 2026 allow extensions toward a two-year total, but the National Immigration Agency controls extension procedure and duration.

1. Assemble the evidence

   Prepare contracts, income evidence, bank statements, insurance and the intended-activities plan.

2. Submit through a Taiwan mission or BOCA

   ~20 days

   Apply abroad, or lodge an eligible in-country application at least ten working days before your current stay expires.

   If staying beyond the initial six months, confirm the current NIA extension procedure well before expiry.

The initial permitted stay is six months. Under the framework effective in 2026, qualifying holders may seek extensions through the National Immigration Agency for a total stay of up to two years.

• In-country applicants should file at least ten working days before their current stay expires

• Confirm extension mechanics directly with the NIA because the two-year framework is new
• Only visa-exempt nationalities qualify
• Approval is discretionary and an interview may be required
• A foreign nomad visa can substitute for the age-based income route, but not the savings and insurance documents
